Computergestützter Architekturmodellbau
Basel, Berlin, Boston 1996
Birkhäuser - ISBN: 3-7643-5363-5
This book publication, written in German, is the first complete work which describes
the subject of computer-aided modeling in architecture by using methods of solid
freeform manufacturing, rapid prototyping and CNC driven milling machines. About
120 graphics, photos and tables - partly colored - are fitted for visual understanding.
The chapters of the book consist of following topics:
- Introduction (reasons for the lacking research and use of computer-aided modeling
in architecture)
- CAAD - summary of terminology and evolution ( three phases of technical and
methodical developments including relationships to computer-aided modeling)
- Importance of physical models in architecture and urban design (drawing up of
traditional methods, materials and processes of creating architecture models)
- Computer-aided techniques for creating physical models (complete collection
and discussion of currently known equipments using subtractive and additive
methods: laser cutting, 3d-CNC-techniques, stereolithography, selective laser
sintering, etc.)
- Types of CAD modeling methods (vector-, surface-, volume-, feature-modeling
techniques, completed by GIS for urban design applications)
- Interfaces (interface problems to standardise CAD systems and programming)
- Examples (10 examples documented by textual information and full colored pictures
on different stages of design work and levels of detailing)
- Outlook and future work (creating physical models in tele co-operative working
environments; 3d-scanning by using computer tomography, roboting, etc.)
- Appendix (examples of interface programs which can be received by contacting the
authors)
An English version of this book is planned.
