Diversity, Ecology and Evolution of microeukaryotes

in extreme marine environments

Our research focuses on microbial (eukaryotic) life in extreme, anoxic marine environments. We study (i) microeukaryote diversity and biogeography using molecular and culturing approaches; (ii) the early evolution of eukaryotes and the reconstruction of evolutionary relationships between eukaryote species using molecular markers; (iii) the ecological significance of microeukaryote diversity and (iv) mechanisms of adaptation to extreme environments.
