DFG Collaborative Research Centers
A funding program of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG), collaborative research centers may be either local (SFB) or trans-regional (SFB/TRR) and tend to involve the participation of three institutions of higher education.
SFBs are long term, cross-disciplinary projects which bring together outstanding resources and expertise. Special research topics that expand international collaboration are especially promoted. They provide an opportunity to set up a common scientific-administrative infrastructure and public relations function while integrating additional funding components, for example, career transition programs, a graduate school program, or the Emmy Noether Grants.
Ongoing special research topics:
- SFB/TRR 49 "Condensed matter systems with variable many-body interactions" (since 2007)
- SFB/TRR 88 "Cooperative effects in homo- and heterometallic complexes (3MET)" (since 2011)
- SFB 530 – Participation – "The space-time interactions of cellular signal molecules" (since 1999)
- SFB 926 "Component surfaces: Morphology on a micro scale" (since 2011)
