OPTIMAS

Center for Optics and Materials Sciences

The Research Center for Optics and Materials Sciences (OPTIMAS) examines the interactions of light, spin (magnetism), and diverse forms of matter. It encompasses the full range of research topics, from basic to technically relevant to technology oriented, in physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science.

The strategic goal of OPTIMAS is the further expansion of nationally and internationally recognized research and training structures at TU Kaiserslautern. An interdisciplinary environment oriented on photonics, spintronics, and molecular/magnetic functional materials to include nanostructures. In this way, the research center wants to create a basis for the applications for new research networks. OPTIMAS members come from the university faculties for physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering and process technology. Additional partners are the Nano Structuring Center (NSC) of TU Kaiserslautern, the department "Terahertz Measurement and Systems (TMS) " of the Frauenhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques (IPM), the Institut für Oberflächen- und Schichtanalytik GmbH (IFOS, Institute for Surface and Thin Film Analysis), the Institut für Verbundswerkstoffe GmbH (IVW, Institute for Composite Materials) and the Photonik-Zentrum Kaiserslautern (PZKL).
