Networking as locational advantage in international competition
As a technology and innovation centre, Kaiserslautern benefits from short travel distances and an excellent network. The city, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as well as the scientific institutes and local business enterprises are equally integrated. Kaiserslautern is also very well networked internationally. Projects and joint ventures can be found all over the world, for example, in Brazil, India, Japan, and the USA.
The city supports the establishment of new companies and the institutes' expansion needs with an active business development strategy and zoning of land near the city centre. Some examples are the PRE-Uni-Park or the planned conversion of the former Pfaff properties into a new technology park. In addition there are many private initiatives like the "Diemersteiner Kreis", where representatives of local businesses and research facilities can support potential business entrepreneurs.
These locational advantages are essential prerequisites for achieving the high number of spin-offs and establishment of new companies already completed and for the success of the Science Alliance Kaiserslautern.
