Federal and State Excellence Initiatives

The Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments is intended to strengthen the long term reputation of Germany as a center of scientific and academic excellence and to improve its competitiveness in world rankings. It provides additional funding for top research at German universities and is divided among three funding lines: Institutional Strategy, Excellence Cluster, and Graduate Programs.

Graduate Program "MAINZ"

The Graduate Program for Materials Science in Mainz (MAINZ) was among the winners of the first phase and received funding for the next five years of approximately eleven million euros. In collaboration with Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz, TU Kaiserslautern has submitted an application for the continuation of the program.
