Allocation based on merit
After accounting for the special quotas, the allocation procedure will distribute 80% of the study places based on merit performance.
Depending on the chosen degree program, other performance criteria may also be considered (the university selection procedures or the so called higher education quotas) in addition to the GPA of the abitur. These play an important role in the application for a bachelor or German diplom program in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at TU Kaiserslautern (see university quotas).
The implementation of the allocation process starts with the preparation of a qualification list. This lists the applicants for a degree program in consecutive order based on the grade point average of their graduation certificate. Example: An application with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.2 is ranked higher than an application with a 2.3 GPA and gains a better position on the list.
The following series of criteria is used to determine the ranking of applications with identical GPAs:
- Length of waiting period,
- Service performed,
- Lottery.
Numerus Clausus (NC) is determined from the performance level of all applicants, after all applications have been received and a qualification list can be prepared. No definitive information about the NC can be provided in advance.
