What happens next?
After the application, the next steps along the path to studying at TU Kaiserslautern are the acceptance and registration (matriculation). There are differences between open enrollment and limited enrollment programmes as well as in the procedures for foreign applicants.
Open enrollment programmes
You will be assigned a study place in any of the open enrollment programmes if you meet the prerequisites for university admission and you complete an application and send it in a timely manner. A letter of acceptance for your programme of choice will be sent to you following the receipt of your application. If any documentation is missing, you will be sent the proper notification.
You can register by paying the social fee after the receipt of your letter of acceptance. You are not automatically registered simply by submitting your application.
It is not necessary to appear in person in order to register.
Subsequent to completing your registration you will be issued a student chipcard, which is also your student identification. Your studies begin with the orientation activities at the start of the semester. Visit our Info-Lounge for useful information about how to begin your studies.

Limited enrollment programmes
The limited enrollment programmes (so called NC subjects) have restrictions on the number of students that may attend. If the number of applicants is greater than the number of available study places, a selection process is implemented according to the provisions of the current German law.
A study place for one of the limited enrollment degree programmes will be assigned to you if you meet the prerequisites, properly complete and submit the application form on time and, have been one of those selected by the selection process.

Every effort is made to insure that you receive a rapid response following the review of your documents. If you are assigned a study place, you must appear in person and present your original certificates in order to register.
All necessary information will be sent to you after you have been assigned a study place.
If you are unable to travel to the Federal Republic of Germany in time to appear for registration, you may submit another request for enrollment for the next available semester. Submit the following documents:
- A letter requesting re-admission
- Copy of your previous letter of acceptance
- Proof of current knowledge of the German language
If these documents are submitted, you will be assigned a study place in the next available semester.
