You will need a good, basic knowledge of the German language to gain admission to study at TU Kaiserslautern. Once you have been accepted and register as a student at TU Kaiserslautern, you can attend a preparatory course for the DSH exam and your degree program.
Requirement: You must have at least 600 class room hours and submit documentation that you have attained skill level B-1 in German. You can meet this requirement by submitting one of the following documents:
B-1 exam from Goethe-Institut or the TELC ("ZD" = "German Certificate")
- Abroad The exam is administered at all Goethe-Instituts.
- In Germany The exam is administered at all Goethe-Instituts, many adult education centers (Volkshochschulen, VHS), and some private language schools.
- Possible testing locations for the B-1 exam
Certificate from a language training center that clearly states "Successful completion of B-1 Skill Level."
The certificate must clearly state:
1. Name of school/university offering the course
2. Length of the course: The number of total classroom hours?
3. Certification exam: What components are included on the exam? What grade did you achieve on each component?A simple certificate of participation ("enrolled in the course") without the graded result from a final exam is not accepted as proof of your German language skills.
- If you have never taken a German language exam, but you understand German and are located in Kaiserslautern, come visit us directly at the office for German language courses: Bldg. 47, Room 426. Marcus Amberger can review your skill level and issue a certificate for your application.
Attention:
- Your language certification may not be older than 1 year.
- Your language certification must be submitted with your application, not at a later time.
If your German is below skill level B-1, your application will be rejected. Your German language ability is insufficient for participation in the DSH course at TU Kaiserslautern.
