TU Kaiserslautern offers various teacher education study programs (Bachelor and Master of Education). The teacher education study program is structured in three levels. The program offers courses in two teaching subjects (i.e. mathematics, physics, biology etc.) and the educational sciences (psychology, sociology and pedagogy). The courses prepare students who one day hope to teach at the Gymnasium, Realschulen plus, or vocational school level (Berufsbildungsschule). Furthermore, the students have four internships at school to test the teacher requirements.

The ”Zentrum für Lehrerbildung” (ZfL) is the interface between all the institutions involved in the education of future teachers, i.e. between the Ministry, the University, the State Seminars for Teaching ("Studienseminare"), and the schools.

The ZfL has the following responsibilities, among others:

• "to develop suggestions for courses of study and for changes to courses of study and their implementation,
• to help with syllabi and examination regulations,
• to assist in the coordination of courses offered by the faculties, especially with regard to curriculum standards compliance, and to help with the organization of teaching,
• to assist with advising students in teacher training courses [...],
• to initiate, advise, support, and carry out school and teacher training related research and development initiatives,
• to coordinate the subject matter and organization of teacher training related courses of study with practical training in schools,
• to assist with the nomination of teacher training related professorships by submitting feedback, if the job description of the professorship includes pedagogical, educational, or subject didactical responsibilities" (§92, University Act).

Our homepage is available in German, as students of teacher training need to speak German fluently. Interested students need to be aware of the fact that all courses in our study programs for teacher education are taught in German only.
