Archive of Past Intercultural Weekends
The "Intercultural weekends" enable German & international doctoral students and young researchers to experience life and work in an international and interdisciplinary context. By dealing with an intercultural or soft-skills topic, participants can reflect their attitude towards and train their behaviour in a multicultural and globalized society.
December 2011: "Intercultural Communication & Dealing with conflicts in intercultural Setting"
- Date: Friday, 9. December until Sunday, 11. December 2012
- Referee: Dr. Miriam Hansen (Goethe University Frankfurt)
- Costs: 20 € per participant
- Venue: Pfalzakademie Lambrecht
Program
Contact with colleagues from different countries and cultures means daily routine for doctoral students at German universities. Intercultural differences that arise in the communication of international teams are a central cause for the occurrence of difficulties and problems. They go far beyond language problems and are able to produce adaptive difficulties as well as acculturative stress. On the intercultural weekend attendees can learn how communication often depends on cultural origin and that it is crucial to raise awareness on the perception of others and optimize the interpretation of communication as well as dealing with conflicts.
