The Ceremony was held by
Prof. Dr. Konrad Wolf, Minister for Research of the federal State of Rhineland-Palatinate
Prof. Dr. Helmut J. Schmidt, President of the University of  Kaiserslautern
Dr. Susanne Wimmer-Leonhardt, Mayor of the City of  Kaiserslautern
Prof. Dr. Martin Aeschlimann, Speaker of LASE, Spin+X and  OPTIMAS
Dipl.-Ing. Holger Basten, Head of the State Facility for Construction (Landesbetrieb Liegenschafts- und Baubetreuung, LBB)
Dipl.-Kaufm. Markus Scheibenzuber, company CRC, Technical  Building Equipment
Dipl.-Ing. Swen Bildhäuser, Architect, B+P Reiner Becker GmbH

Once completed, LASE will also serve as a central facility for Spin+X researchers.
LASE will provide on 6000 m2 an ideal facility for research in spin physics, spin materials and quantum optics with one focus being nano-fabrication. Funding for LASE was granted by the German Science Council (Wissenschaftsrat) in the federal program for research facilities (Forschungsbauten GG § 91b) with a total funding volume of 39.2 Mio. € (not included additional funding of large equipment worth 6.8 Mio €).

On 6000 m2 LASE will house

  • Laboratories for Spin Dynamics
  • Laboratories for NMR Science & Engineering
  • Office Space for Spin Theory
  • New lab space for the existing Nano Structuring Center (NSC).

LASE will also house the new W3 professorship in Magnetic Sensors and Devices.
