Online seminar "Job search and applications“

Training goals

Leaving academia and looking for a job in the industry is an important and sometimes difficult step. This intensive course enables you to go through a quickly an successful job search process. It consists of live webinars and self-learning videos.

Additional working hours: +6 hours individual work for self-study courses and further tasks

Target group

International and German doctoral researchers and postdocs who are looking for a new employment in the next 12 months and have little application knowledge.

  • Content and design of an application
  • Analysis of job ads and estimation of chances
  • Individual application feedback in small groups

 

Subject “Job Search“

In the first seminar session, we discuss which competencies are often acquiered during a doctorate and their relevance for companies. You find out more about job profiles in the industry which might be interesting for you and how you can find other possible jobs. In a following self-study course, you get to know various options of active and passive job search strategies, incl. job databases and activities to come into contact with employers. Furthermore, you understand how to plan and organize your individual search for future employments.

Subject “Application Documents“

In a self-learning webinar you will get the necessary basic knowledge on how to write your cover letter and CV, and how best to adapt your application to the job offer. You see examples for a professional application design, photos and get advice for your certificate selection. We reflect modern and traditional application aspects and deepen the understanding of your target persons. Moreover, you receive important hints how to make your profile particularly interesting for employers. In an additional live workshop, you learn the meaning of typical phrases in job advertisements and how much your chances of success are influenced by requirements you cannot fulfil. Afterwards you can prepare your own application and receive feedback for your CV in a subsequent meeting.

 

Language

Live sessions will be held in English. Self-study courses are available in English and German.

Technical requirements and e-collaboration tool

  • PC or laptop with (integrated) webcam as well as microphone and speakers (a headset would be optimal) .
  • Powerful Internet with a current browser.
  • A quiet workplace.

The workshop will take place via the European platform ClickMeeting. Various websites will also be used to support an interactive learning atmosphere.

 

Trainer

Heidi Störr, Push Your Career - Career Consultancy

After her graduation in business studies she worked for several companies as a HR Specialist. Since 2012 she offers advice for German and international academic graduates. With her seminars she provides an introduction to most central aspects of starting a career in Germany after graduation.

Keep the date free already today! Registration opens approx. 3 months before the start of the course. 

When registering, please be sure to indicate: Start of application phase/expected end of PhD (the indication is possible via the comment field on the last page of the registration form).You will be informed about your admission to the course only after the registration deadline!
