EPIC Spatially Coupled LDPC Codes

The following SC-LDPC codes were constructed within the H2020 EPIC project. The EPIC codes have memory ms = 1 and are time-invariant, i.e., Hi(t) = Hi(t') for i = 0, . . . , ms and t, t' = 1, ... , L. The sub-matrices H0 and H1 are each constructed from the 8 × 40 basegraphs B0 and B1. Lifting was performed with progressive edge growth and Z = {16, 24, 32} such that there are no 4-cycles in H[1,L] . The last c−b columns of H0 contain a (c−b)×(c−b) identity matrix for simplified systematic encoding [1].

The provided bit-error-rates (BER) were obtained by simulation using an additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation. Decoding was performed using a row-layered pipelined decoder with normalized Min-Sum (scaling factor 0.75) and 64 iterations (windows size W=128).
