January 2012: Latest Flyer Project Erma

Project of a research group from ZNT

Funded from the Stiftung Rheinland-Pfalz für Innovation

Initial Situation:

The scarcity of fossil resources and raw materials, as long as the rising energy costs in the last years have brought the automotive industry to a massive change in its thinking. The reduction of energy consumption and successive use of renewable energy are since than one of the most important innovation topics in this industry branch.
In contrast to the passenger cars sector, where the political and technical requirements are very high already, in the field of mobile working machines comprehensive measures for increasing the energy efficiency are still not widespread. In order to fulfil the high energy requirements in the near future, extensive concepts, new structures and innovative technical approaches for increasing the total energy efficiency of the these machines are needed.

Approach:

Main topic of the project is the research and development of energy efficient concepts and technologies for mobile working machines. Thereby major focus is put to the areas of the energy management, life cycle management, implement, powertrain and auxiliary equipment. The eco-efficiency of the mobile machines can be increased in two phases:

  1. Optimization of conventional mechanical-hydraulic components and systems
  2. Development of new, more efficient hydraulic and electrical structures at system level

The evaluation of costs, resources and energy over the whole life cycle of the product - from the cradle to the grave - and based on virtual prototypes builds a solid basis.

Strategy:

The research of new concept and technologies for reduction of energy consumption of mobile working machines have to be made using a numerical simulation, test bench trials and test in the the bearers of technology. Main objective of the project is the buildup of a extensive numerical simulation environment for mobile working machines, which will be used for simulation and evaluation of the energy consumption of the  vehicle in operation and over its whole life cycle, thereby the conventional and new system concepts will be compared. Further objective of the project is the development of new promising concepts and technologies for innovative system structures. These will be analysed and evaluated through simulations.

Your Advantages:

You benefit from this joint project funded by the Foundation for Innovation Rhinland-Pfalz:

  • Better utilisation of the provided energy through new system solutions
  • Protection of environment and climate through less emissions with lower CO2 output
  • Modern,  up-to-date products in the commercial vehicle branch
  • Product Lifecycle Management based data and process management for a holistic development of energy and resource efficient products
  • Better product understanding trough extensive know-how
  • Solid basis for further, extensive research projects

Project Funding

The project „Energy and resource efficient mobile working machines“ (ERMA) is a joint project, which is performed by a research group within the ZNT. This is constituted of Professor Schindler, Professor Sauer, Professor Eigner und Professor Müller. The project is funded by the Stiftung Rheinland-Pfalz für Innovation.
