Research at the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern
The Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (TU Kaiserslautern, TUK) is a research university with international visibility. Research of highest quality according to the international standards of the respective scientific disciplines lies at the very heart of TUK. Quality and strength of the whole spectrum of TUK’s research are rooted in the scientific disciplines and in addressing the grand societal scientific challenges. TUK’s research strategy governs a dynamic process of profile building with major support by the research initiative of the Federal State of Rhineland-Palatinate. Two research centers and six research units represent the current major scientific strongholds of the university.
Ongoing third-party funding within coordinated research programs (among them seven Collaborative Research Centers) are particular evidence of TUK’s successful profile building with international visibility. Through participation in the Graduate School of Excellence Materials Science in Mainz (MAINZ), TUK is also recognized in the Excellence Initiative of the Federal Government and the Federal States.
Cooperations – local, regional and international
Several renowned research institutes are located on and near the campus, all are closely cooperating with TUK. The largest of these institutes are:
The Technische Universität Kaiserslautern has strong ties with the Universities of Liège, Luxembourg, Lorraine (with locations in Nancy and Metz), Saarland and Trier within the framework of the University of the Greater Region (UniGR). The six UniGR universities represent a large variety of scientific disciplines and offer scientists and PhD students, alike, ample opportunities for research across borders.
Within the project karema (Kaiserslautern Research Matching) TUK is currently exploring new approaches for international research marketing. Karema was selected for funding by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in 2016 as only one of four projects.
