On January 30, 2019, the "Tag der offenen Tür" took place at the JGU Mainz. About 13,000 pupils used this offer this year to learn about the wide variety of study opportunities of the JGU.

In addition to the information about studying, the was also a presentation of the current research going on at the JGU at the "Science Square". In this framework, Spin+X participated in the event under the direction of the science outreach project with the following demonstrators regarding spin and magnetism phenomena:

  • a Smartboard with a spin wave animation
  • a model of the Taipeh Tower with elevators are controlled by GMR sensors
  • a hard disc drive with transparent cover, through which the read head with a GMR sensor can be observed
  • a hands-on experiment regarding the strain-induced transition of magnetization in steel and a model train as a demonstration of a possible application of this research

Young Spin+X researchers supervised the stand and provided pupils and teachers with a vivid insight into the fascinating world of spin research and its applications.
