Information for applicants
Next time to apply
Applications are expected to be possible from the end of May to the beginning of July. The selection interviews will take place at the end of September. The exact dates will be published in good time.
First-year students in the 1st semester and students whose previous careers suggest a good degree, who have achieved special academic achievements or who demonstrate special social or family commitment and who will continue to study for at least 1 semester within the standard period of study from the winter semester onwards.
First-year students can apply before matriculation.
The scholarship is not subject to any conditions, such as a limit on weekly secondary employment.
The amount of a scholarship is 300 € per month; one half is financed by the federal government, the other half comes from a sponsor (company, foundation, private person, etc.).
The scholarship is granted for a maximum of the standard period of study.
School and study achievements are an important reference point for assessing the performance and talent of applicants (Abitur grade, etc.). However, other criteria also count in the selection process, such as involvement in an association, politics or the church, the education of one's own children, the care of relatives, assistance in parental work or overcoming particular biographical obstacles. The application and selection procedure takes into account the applicant's entire personality.
Application is possible from the end of May until the beginning of July! The exact dates will be published by RHRK circular e-mail in time.
The selection interviews are expected to take place in late September/early October at Villa Denis, Diemerstein. For the 2019/20 selection round, the interviews take place on 25.09.2019.
This scholarship is paid independently of income and parents.
No. The BAföG funds and the Deutschlandstipendium are two complementary programmes. Students can take advantage of both funding opportunities at the same time without discounts.
No. The Deutschlandstipendium is not credited against other social benefits, for example neither against housing benefit nor unemployment benefit II in need based relationships.
The Scholarship Programme Act (Stipendienprogramm-Gesetz - StipG) was designed in such a way that Deutschlandstipendien generally do not constitute taxable or socially liable income.
The scholarship is not paid during the period of leave from studies for personal or family reasons, e.g. pregnancy or child-raising or to care for a close relative. With the continuation of the studies, the approval period is extended by the duration of the leave of absence. An exception to this is a leave of absence for a subject-related stay abroad (e.g. via Erasmus). During this time, the scholarship will continue to be paid despite leave of absence, an extension of the grant period is not possible.
This depends on the amount and type of scholarship funding. Those who already receive a talent and performance-related material sponsorship which amounts to more than 30 euros per month do not receive a Deutschlandstipendium. This applies, for example, to scholarship holders received from the organisations for the promotion of talented persons (Begabtenförderungswerke).
Scholarships are awarded in accordance with the Scholarship Programme Act (StipG) and the Ordinance on the Implementation of the Scholarship Programme Act.
You apply via our online application form and send the required documents to the BAföG and Scholarships Department (Building 47, Room 516).
After the application deadline has expired, the BAföG and Scholarships Department will carry out a formal examination, after which the departments will make a pre-selection.
On the basis of the pre-selection, the candidates are invited to an interview, which is conducted by a specialised assessor and a non-specialised assessor.
Sponsors may, if they wish, have an advisory role in the selection interviews for the scholarships they make available.
The specialised assessor and the non-specialised assessor decide on the eligibility of the applicants for funding.
The scholarships are awarded on the basis of the assessment by the assessors and the number of scholarships available.
Subsequently, all applicants will receive a confirmation or refusal.
