Departmental Councils

The departmental council of each academic department is its highest level decision making body and is composed of representatives of its teaching staff, students, and academic and non-academic employees.

The departmental council elects the dean and possibly other members of the deanery such as a vice-dean or student dean. This body advises and also decides on the use of the department’s resources, including such matters as financing, personnel and the use of rooms. The council is likewise responsible for basic questions from the areas of research and teaching, such as the introduction and discontinuation of courses of study, approvals of examination regulations, and the conferral of academic degrees.
