Second SPIN+X Retreat in Bad Dürkheim
After roughly half of the first funding period of the collaborative research center, all SPIN+X members gathered again for a retreat at Kurpark Hotel Bad Dürkheim. First, in several talks an overview over the scientific findings of the individual projects and the supply chains was given. The supply chains are associations of projects within SPIN+X who are working on the same research topics while using different approaches. As planned, the supply chains lead to very fruitful cooperations, making SPIN+X much more efficient than the sum of its parts. Regarding future research, new promising research aspects und necessary adaptations of the existing structures were discussed. During the general assembly, Karin Everschor-Sitte was approved and welcomed as new SPIN+X member.
In the poster session, SPIN+X PhD Students and Post-Docs presented their current research. This provided all scientists with the possibility to discuss at length details of the scientific progress and possible strategies for open questions or problems. Before the poster session, a pitch talk session took place, where every participant had the opportunity to present their poster in two minutes. In a vote by all SPIN+X members, the best pitch talk was selected and awarded. The award went to Frank Heussner for his talk on “Spin excitations for information processing”.
At the third day of the retreat, SPIN+X PhD students had the opportunity to improve their skills in project management in a workshop lead by Volker Gottwald, organized by the SPIN+X Young Researchers College.
Beside the high quality talks and posters, the retreat gave all SPIN+X members the chance to deepen their connections to each other in a relaxed atmosphere and to network also during meals and breaks. To make it possible to attend the retreat for all parents, child care was offered for the whole time of the retreat.
