Thomas Künzel: The role of dendritic inputs in high-fidelity temporal processing of phase-coding neurons in the mammalian anteroventral cochlear nucleus

Spherical bushy cells, a type of nerve cell in the auditory brainstem, receive very precise information about perceived sounds from the inner ear.

They are extremely specialized to faithfully send this information to higher levels in the auditory system.

However, other inputs can dramatically change how the spherical bushy cells process and pass on information.

It seems that the dendritic tree of the spherical bushy cell receives inputs from many different sources, but not much is known about that yet.

In this project we therefore want to determine what further inputs are present and what role they might play for the sense of hearing.
