Visit of the Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Namibia

On 10 February 2017, Prof. Kenneth Matengu, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation & Development of the University of Namibia (UNAM) visited the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau. After a guided tour through the experimental halls of the Federal Material Testing Institute for Rhineland-Palatinate and the structural engineering, the President of the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau Prof. Dr. Helmut Schmidt welcomed his guest at the Villa Denis in Frankenstein. At the lunch with the university leadership was discussed, among other things, a further cooperation between the two universities in the field of research and training. The Rheinpfalz reported about the meeting on 11 February 2017.

Namibian students visit the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau

Under the program of the University of Namibia, Ongwediva Engineering Campus (UNAM) and the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau, which was supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), thirteen Bachelor students from the field of civil engineering from Namibia came from 29.11.-12.12.2015. The students were accompanied by their specialist supervisor from UNAM, Dr. Rolf Bauer. The visit of the Namibian students this year followed the excursion of the students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau in Sept./Oct. 2015 to Namibia, which was also attended by students from Freie Universität Berlin.

The students were supervised by the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management (Prof. Dr. Robert Jüpner) and the Institute of Construction Material Technology (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Breit) at Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau. The other departments of civil engineering of the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau supported the guests' stay with information and guided tours in their areas.

The stay in Kaiserslautern with an internship and examination is part of the education of the Bachelor's degree in civil engineering at UNAM. In addition to the internship in the first week, excursions to the Dillinger Hütte, the construction site of the Waschmühltalbrücke, the State Office for Environment Rhineland-Palatinate in Mainz, the polder Ingelheim and the Rhine quality station in Worms were carried out. Students from the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau and the Freie Universität Berlin took a part in the excursions.

Stay of Namibian students from 8 to 22 December 2013

The Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management coordinated the two-week stay of Namibian students in December 2013. With the support of other departments in civil engineering and a detour into the Faculty of Spatial and Environmental Planning, the guests did not only learn about water-related topics. Lectures, practical laboratory courses and professional excursions completed the exchange program, in which the participants finally presented their study projects, which had begun in October 2013 during the visit of Prof. Dr. Robert Jüpner (Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Breit (Institute of Construction Material Technology) and students of the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau at the University of Namibia.

At this point we would like to thank the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), which made the project possible in this form.

Visit of the Namibian Transport Minister

The Namibian Minister of Work and Transport, Mr. Erkki Nghimtina, visited the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau in June 2013 together with Prof. Semar from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

A part of the meeting was a student presentation on the topic "Water storage with local construction materials in Namibia". The students of the diploma program in civil engineering, Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau, presented their current work, which they prepared in the context of the course "Project Work Hydraulic Engineering".

This was followed by another visit by a Namibian delegation with the Minister of Transport at the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau in July 2016.

Visit of Namibian students of civil engineering

As a part of the program of the University of Namibia, Ongwediva Engineering Campus (UNAM) and the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau, which was supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), ten students from the field of civil engineering from Namibia came from 18 November until 07 December 2012.

The students were supervised by the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management (Prof. Dr. Robert Jüpner) and the Institute of Construction Material Technology (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Breit) as well as by the Department Regional Development and Spatial Planning, Faculty of Spatial and Environmental Planning at Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau. The other departments of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau supported the guests' stay with excursions, information and guided tours in their areas. The stay in Kaiserslautern with an internship, professional excursions and examinations is part of the education of the Bachelor's degree in civil engineering at UNAM.

In addition to the academic exchange, meetings with the student body of the faculties and students of the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau took place.
